Republic Scotland
About Republic Scotland

Republic Scotland is a grassroots campaign group calling for the abolition of monarchy and an end to all hereditary positions of power. We are part of Republic, a UK wide campaign.

Our mission is quite simple:

  • to mount a successful campaign to persuade a majority of voters to support the replacement of our hereditary monarchy with an elected head of state.
  • having done so, to participate in and try to guide the process of change.
  • to promote democratic republican forms of government, and to facilitate a debate on the best model for a future republic.
  • We believe the best alternative is an elected head of state, a position that would have little power.

We are not a political party, but instead seek to influence the views and policies of the parties and the people.

We envisage the elected head of state would be limited to performing ceremonial duties, and any powers the post holds would be enshrined in a written constitution.

The Campaign for an Elected Head of State is a member organisation. If you agree that hereditary power is wrong, and that a democratic head of state is right, then join and support the campaign.

'Republic Scotland' is an semi-autonomous part of 'Republic'.
